From the Danube to the Euphrates, from Britain to Africa, Hadrian founded cities, built roads and temples, erected monuments, and listened to the concerns of the local populace. A learned scholar, architect, and philosopher, Hadrian spent almost half of his twenty-year reign traveling across the vast Empire. The emperor himself was an embodiment of this golden age. Lavishly decorated and filled with beautiful sculptures, Hadrian’s Villa reflected the Roman Empire at its height - being a microcosm of imperial grandeur and power. In the end, the complex included over thirty massive buildings, and landscape-like features including pools, baths, and fountains. In 128 CE, the Villa was ready to welcome its master and chief architect, although the construction would take five more years. The “Villa” was, in fact, larger than the city of Pompeii (!) and its plan was so ambitious that the builders had to break with tradition, constructing the estate in a valley, not on a hillside.ĭue to its sheer size and importance, it took ten years to bring this monumental project to an end. It was a sprawling palatial complex, generously spread out over 120 hectares. Yet, its beauty and grandeur never faded, and even today, it is hard not to be in awe of this ancient masterpiece.ĭespite its name, Hadrian’s Villa was more than a simple building. Like most ancient structures, Hadrian’s Villa fell into disrepair and ruin following the collapse of the Roman West. It was also a veritable museum, filled to the brim with Greek and Roman masterpieces, reflecting Hadrian’s interest in art, literature, and philosophy. In its heyday, Hadrian’s Villa was a marvel to behold, a small town comprising various residential and public buildings, all influenced by different art styles from across the Empire. It was both a pleasure palace and a center of government - the emperor’s official residence. Hadrian’s Villa, however, was more than a simple retreat. Whenever not on the road, Hadrian would spend time in his opulent estate, built in the vicinity of Rome. Unlike his predecessors, who enjoyed life in the capital, Emperor Hadrian preferred to travel across his vast Empire. He also funded large construction projects in both the capital and the provinces, including Hadrian’s Wall, and the Pantheon. He secured the Empire’s stability, by withdrawing the army to the easily defensible borders, which he often personally inspected. During a troublesome time of his life, youthful Tommy has at last secured the ideal position! He was employed as a jack of all trades in the rich and extravagant Joy Manor! Everything appears to go in the correct manner now: a generally excellent compensation, a decent spot to live, and the Delights, a pleasant family to work for! In any case, each individual from this family and, surprisingly, its group appears to conceal an alternate mystery! For what reason does criminal investigator Rhonda Robinson need to approach Mr Aristotele Delight? Will Tommy oppose the staggering sex allure of the two youthful Delight girls, Elettra and Marika?
